To adapt the tour to what you are most interested in seeing, and above all, so that you can dive into its history in a more intimate and personal way.
Of course, there are places and mysteries that everyone who comes to the city should discover. And this is articulated on three bullet points, three peoples who, each in their own way, shaped the ancient city of Gerunda to become the Girona of today.
The first of these three peoples were the Romans, the true founders of the city. We will tell why they settled here, who ordered them to do so and what marks they left that still remain two thousand years later.
The second axis was the Franks, and later the French. The history of Girona is closely linked to Charlemagne and the kingdom that would later become France, for not in vain in the Gallic country Girona is known as ‘The City of a Thousand Sieges’.
And finally, the last group that left its indelible mark on the city were the Jews. Girona has one of the best preserved Jewish quarters in Europe, and no wonder. The Jewish community made its life within these walls for six hundred years. Even today we can still see their legacy not only in the structure of the old quarter, but also in its streets and portals. Some of these alleys have been preserved as they were conceived at the time, so they are more than eight hundred years old.
