Discover the city

Girona is one of the most emblematic and charming cities in Catalonia. The historic center of Girona, which undoubtedly includes its most emblematic monuments, has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Like all cities with a long history, there are many interesting places to visit, anecdotes to learn, and secrets to discover. With the Free Tour Girona, we explore these corners articulating the visit around three axes, the three peoples that have shaped this city: The Romans, who founded the city in the time of the Roman Republic. The Jews, who performed here the most relevant works of the Kabbalah. And the Carolingian Empire, which took control of the city to make it a frontier stronghold against the Arabs.

Points of Interest

The Arab baths

These Romanesque baths date from the 12th century, and still retain the charm of that time. They are not quite Arab, as we commented in the tour, but their legacy has been a meeting point for more than 800 years.

The Cathedral

Famous for having appeared in a multitude of media, such as in the acclaimed Game of Thrones series, this cathedral boasts the widest Gothic nave in the world. In addition, it has almost 1,000 years of history behind it.

The Jewish Quarter

In these narrow, cobblestone streets the Jews of Girona lived through the turbulent times of the Black Death, the persecution of the Inquisition and finally their subsequent expulsion by the Catholic Monarchs. If you know where to look, there is still the mark of a people who left their mark on Girona.
